Ethel M. Bair Howze

Forrest Ethel Manes Bair Howze, 94, of O’Brien, Florida went home to be with her Lord on July 20 while surrounded by her family on the family’s farm. She was born in 1918 in Webb City, Missouri and was the eldest child of James Ralph and Velva Fern Greer Manes. She was a loving wife to Howard E. Bair of 49 years and bore him 4 children. Later in life she was married to Everette C. Howze for 15 years. Ethel spent most of her years living, working, and raising children in Belle Glade, Florida. She retired as a bank auditor after working 40 years at Everglades Federal Savings and Loan in Belle Glade. She was also the treasurer of Bair’s Communications in Belle Glade; a family owned and operated business. She attended church faithfully with her husband at the Church of Christ of Belle Glade, Florida. In addition to enjoying her growing family of active grandchildren, she loved to play softball and card games with friends and family. On weekends and holidays, she and husband, Howard, relished trips working a farm in O’Brien purchased for their retirement years. After her husband Howard passed, she moved to north Florida, briefly living in Gainesville, then to O’Brien to spend time with family who lived there. She was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church of McAlpin, Florida where she enjoyed fellowship with her Christian family. She is survived by her children, F. Wayne (Betty) Bair, Glenn E. (Donna) Bair, Sharon E. (Robert) Bair Richardson, and Ralph D. (Jeanetta) Bair, 12 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren. Also, she is survived by her brother-in-law, John “Jack” Rashley Jr., 94, of Hiram, GA, the oldest living family member of her generation. She was preceded in death by her husbands, parents, sisters, Mary Manes Harrison, Varena Manes King, both of Alabama; brother, James F. Manes of O’Brien, two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at Daniels Funeral Home, Live Oak, FL on Wednesday, July 24 with visitation beginning at 1 P.M. and the funeral at 2 P.M officiated by her son-in-law: Pastor Bob Richardson and grandson: Pastor Ronald L. Richardson. The family will gather for a graveside service at 2 P.M. on Friday, July 26 in Port Mayaca Cemetery, Port Mayaca, Florida, where she will be interned beside her husband, Howard E. Bair. Memorial donations may be made in Ethel’s name to Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, McAlpin, Florida.
