Dennis Lloyd Resor, 81 died peacefully on May 30, 2026, after suffering a brain hemorrhage on May 27th. He is survived by his daughter Lauren Green, son-in-law Travis Green and grandson Ethan Green. He was preceded in death by his wife Pat and son Ed. He was born on January 8, 1945, the only child of Norman and Helen Resor, in Bureau, Illinois. His parents were both musicians, so he was surrounded by music at an early age. He graduated with a Bachelor of Music Education from Vander Cook College of Music in Chicago, Illinois in 1967. He was the musical director at Henry Sencahwine High School in Henry, Illinois and was named outstanding educator in May of 1968. He was drafted into the US army and served from November of 1969 until October of 1971 in Vietnam. He earned the rank of Sgt and served both in the field and in the rear at Company HQ. Dennis earned a Bronze Star as well as commendations with various weapons. He occasionally commented that learning to type in high school most likely saved his life because the skill moved him out of combat.

He moved to Live Oak in 1977, with long hair and bell bottoms, to accept a job as Music Minister at The First United Methodist Church of Live Oak. He would spend 30 years in this job, serving as both Music Minister and Youth Minister under at least 8 ministers, attending many annual conferences in Lakeland, Florida and achieving the title of Diaconal Minister before retiring in 2007.  He led many youth ski trips, youth choir tour trips and Senior Leaf Trips on the church bus throughout his tenure. In 2008, he moved to Panama City and worked part time in music ministry at Grace Presbyterian Church until fully retiring in 2015.

With a bit of match-making by church members, Dennis married Pat Woodbery on Valentines' Day 1979. He became a stepfather to Ed and Lauren. Though his musical talents and faith were in the forefront, he excelled in carpentry and woodwork. He and Ed renovated the garage in the early 1980's, creating a living room that served as a gathering place for both friends and family over the decades. After Pat's untimely death in 2005, he continued to serve at FUMC of Live Oak but moved to Panama City to live near Ed in 2008. He and Ed traveled to Canada, Maine, and out west and formed a close, strong relationship as they grieved Pat's loss. Many cherished memories occurred in Panama City at Ed's condo on the beach, great seafood and Ethan's pool and beach time.  Model trains became a passion for Dennis and helped to provide a creative outlet. After Ed's untimely death in 2014, Dennis moved to Pensacola in 2015 to be near Lauren and her family. His hobbies included singing in the choir and playing handbells at FUMC of Pensacola and playing both trombone and clarinet with the Pensacola Bay Concert Band. He created an intricate model train display in his garage and enjoyed participating in and hosting a model train club at his home. He suffered his first brain hemorrhage in 2019 and, after being unable to live alone, he moved into assisted living at Wesley Haven Villas in March of 2022. He lived there happily until his death. His family would like to express their appreciation for the love and care he received at Wesley Haven. They are also appreciative of the compassionate care he received at HCA West Florida Hospital ER & ICU and at Vitas Hospice.

A memorial service will be held in Pensacola on July 10th at 2:00PM at the First United Methodist Church at 6 E. Wright Street. A second service will be held at First Methodist Church in Live Oak on Saturday July 18th at 11:00AM. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Dennis' memory to the Pensacola Bay Concert Band and to the Methodist Children's Home.
