Obituary

Duane Sabisco Harper passed away on January 16, 2025, at the age of 81, in Valdosta, Georgia. Born on October 3, 1943, Duane dedicated his career to electrical instrumentation engineering. He was an alumni of the University of South Florida, which laid the foundation for his successful career.

Duane was a loving husband to his wife Karen Harper for 52 years and a cherished father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Karen; children, Rebecca DeVane and her partner Colt Hample, Andrea Harper and her wife Sarah, K. Duane Harper and his husband Daniel, and Julie Milam and her husband John; grandchildren, Seamus Johnson and Eli Milam. He was preceded in death by his parents, J. Claude and Marguerite Harper, and his sister, Jean McClelland.


Known for his deep love for the outdoors, Duane enjoyed swimming and snorkeling in the Florida springs. His musical talents were expressed through playing the guitar and singing, often sharing these moments with family and friends. A lifelong learner, he relished in acquiring new knowledge and generously shared it with others, always with a sense of joy and enthusiasm.


A Celebration of Life will be held at Daniels Funeral Home in Live Oak, Florida, on Monday, January 20, 2025. Visitation will commence at 12:00 PM, followed by the service at 1:00 PM. The family will also be receiving visitors at their residence in Hahira, GA, from 4-6 PM on the same day.


Duane's life was marked by his devotion to his family, passion for his interests, and the legacy of kindness and wisdom he leaves behind.
