We regretfully announce the passing of Edward John Ernst "Skip" Weigel Jr. Skip was born in Teaneck, New Jersey on November 6, 1939, to Dora Diaz and Edward John Ernst Weigel Sr. At the age of 7, he moved to Tampa, Florida where he became a member of the Boy Scouts of America with a Life ranking. He graduated from Hillsborough High School and attended the University of South Florida. He enlisted in the Coast Guard where he served for eight years. He worked for WFLA-TV in the documentary department which furthered his interest in photography. He moved to Live Oak, Florida in 1967 where he opened Colonial Photography which he owned and operated until 2006 when he retired. While living in Live Oak, Skip became a 32nd Degree Mason. He was an influential member of many organizations such as the Jaycees, serving on the Suwannee County Fair Board, and president of the Tallahassee Professional Photographers Guild and the Gainesville Professional Photographers Guild. Skip was also co-owner of the Live Oak Independent Post newspaper. He then moved to Branford, Florida on the Suwannee River where he continued to enjoy the outdoors, being on the water, and participating in the Branford Camera Club. Skip shared his passion for adventure and life with his family and friends. Skip is survived by his wife Judith Weigel and his children, Heather Weigel Blew, Jason Weigel (Kay), Randall Hellman (Tracie), and Christopher Fagerstrom (Emily), 7 grandchildren, Andrea Hellman, Randi Lyn Hellman, Emily Weigel, Casey Fagerstrom, Dylan Maroney, Connor Fagerstrom, and Lydia Weigel, his 2 brothers, Dennis Weigel (Sharon) and Paul Weigel (Lyn), his honorary brother, Dan Richard (Melba), many nieces and nephews, and close friends. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Heart Association or your charity of choice.
