Born February 9, 1939, Cocoa, Florida

Predeceased by son Steven; parents Charles "Doc" and Hugh D Jones; and three of his four brothers, Bob, Louis, and Bruce.

Survived by his wife, Kathryn; daughters Karen (Greg) and Pamela (Howard); grandchildren Olivia, Madeline, Phillip, Garrett, and Molly; and brother Andy (Judy).

The middle of five boys, Dan and his brothers were a brilliant, barefoot, and boisterous band of adventurers, forever testing the limits of their beleaguered mother's patience. Oh, the stories we heard at frequent Jones family picnics and camping trips. We laughed over tales of his stock car racing and closet full of trophies; his succession of cars, both new and used; his frightening tire-off-the-road way of driving, even in the mountains; his summers of church softball—a pastime he shared with Steven; and the way he loved a good cigar on the porch during the rain.

A graduate of University of Florida, he married Kathryn Henderson on Good Friday in 1961 and Steven and Karen were born over the next few years. After Pamela came along a few years after that, Dan moved the family to Live Oak, where he Dan bought land, cows, farm equipment, and horses; his work ethic and love of family led him to create a beautiful home out of what had been a old, run-down frame house.  He would have built a ladder to the stars and a machine with which to gather the stars for Kathryn if she'd asked.

Over the long and honorable life he and Kathryn had together, Dan always made time to help the community, and, until just a few years ago, both volunteered with a local group to provide disaster relief all over the southeastern US.  There was nothing Dan couldn't create or fix, from houses, fences, and cars, to computers and broken hearts.  He had a way of listening to his kids that made them feel loved. Of all the projects he undertook over the years, the most loving was the restoration of Steven's first truck.  Dan replaced the old, rusted truck bed with a beautiful wooden floor, relocated the gas tank for safety, fitted it with modern safety features, and kept it in a place of honor in their garage even when they moved to Dowling Park and had to give up his beloved—and air-conditioned--workshop.

A celebration of life will be held at 11 am Monday, August 26th at Daniels Memorial Chapel with a visitation held prior to the service at 10:00 am.
