James L. Barrett, Sr., aged 72, of McAlpin, FL, passed away on May 6, 2026. He was born on September 24, 1953, in Birmingham, AL. James dedicated 30 years of his career to working as a heavy equipment operator for the Department of Transportation in Mulberry, FL, before retiring in Lake City, FL.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Sandy L. Barrett. James is survived by his daughters, Teresa Barrett, Springfield, TN Heather Szortyka of Tallahassee, FL, and his sons, James L. 'Jimmy' Barrett, Jr. of McAlpin, FL, and Colin Barrett, along with his wife Jessica, of Lake City, FL. He leaves behind cherished grandchildren: Ashley, Zoie, Marcie, Jonathen, Beir, Aubrey, Phoenix, Wesley, Faith, Meaghan, Karayan, and Blaze, as well as four great-grandchildren: Mia, Brady, Saylor, and Teddy.

A graveside service will be held at Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery on Wednesday, May 13th, with Mr. Kem Beaty officiating.
