James "Jim" H. Smith passed away on January 26, 2023. Jim was born to Nina and Greenberry Smith on March 28, 1932 in Dixie County, Florida. When he was in sixth grade, his family moved to the O'Brien community in Suwanee County, Florida. He graduated from Branford High School, then worked briefly in his father's bulldozer business. He joined the Air Force and served for two years, then returned home to run the family business after his father's accidental death.

Jim met Dorothy Puryear in his childhood, and they married in 1955. He graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering. He began his career in engineering and sales at Dynatronics in the Orlando area. He later worked as a partner in several companies, the latest at Productivity Monitoring and Aquatrak.

Jim enjoyed fishing, hunting, and working with computers. He was an avid reader and carried his Kindle with him for many years. He was a longtime member of a computer club that met each week to either fix a club member's computer or work on it until it broke down.

Jim is survived by his wife of 67 years, Dorothy; daughters Sue Harmon (Kyle) of Columbia, South Carolina, and Joye Smith of Birmingham, Alabama; grandson, Travis Harmon (Bianca) of Lexington, South Carolina; and sister Helen Humphries of O'Brien, Florida. He was dearly beloved by many nieces, nephews, and numerous friends. He is preceded in death by his son, Edwin Smith; granddaughter, Laura Joye Harmon; sister, Maude Smith Evans; brothers, Marcus and Clyde Smith.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, January 30, 2023, at 2:00 PM at The Church of the Springs (formerly First Baptist Church of Sanlando Springs), 742 Sanlando Road, Altamonte Springs, Florida 32714. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2023, at 11:00 AM at O'Brien Cemetery in O'Brien, Florida. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be given to a charity of your choice.
