James Douglas Lucas, known by Doug to his friends and family, fell asleep in the Lord on August 09, 2024.

Doug was born on May 5, 1955 in Dunn, North Carolina to James and Betty Lucas. After meeting his wife, Paula, at Berkshire Christian College, Doug served as the pastor of the Dover Advent Christian Church in Dover, FL for over 40 years.  He also spent many years serving at camps.  He started serving at Camp Dixie as a youth and then spoke at Camp Suwannee for over 30 years.

Doug was an outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing as well as spending time in his garden.  He was also an avid sports fan and loved UNC basketball as well as the Tampa Bay Rays and Buccaneers.

He is survived by his wife Paula, children Angela Lucas McCarthy, Shannon (Ralph) Williams, Chris (Brittany) Lucas, and Michael (Rachel) Lucas, and grandchildren Drew and Gavin McCarthy, Lucas and Rachel Williams, and Sadie and Harrison Lucas.

He is also survived by his brother Rev. Wayne (Ruth) Lucas, mother-in-law Ann Perry, nieces and nephews, great nephew and nieces, and extended family.

A service to celebrate Doug's life will be held on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at 11am with visitation at 10am at Daniel's Funeral Home, located in Live Oak, FL. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations given to Camp Suwannee in Doug's memory.
