Joan L. Newman was born on January 14, 1932, in Luraville, Florida, and passed away on August 9, 2024, at Hospice in Lake City.  Joan was a kind and resilient soul always looking for the best in people.  She attended school in Live Oak from 8th to 12th grade graduating from Suwannee High School with the Class of 1949.  She had many lifelong friends and began the next chapter as the bride of Robert (Bob) Newman in 1952, as a farmer and contractor's wife.  Being the only girl in her family, this marriage brought with it the added bonus of two sisters, Zoe Newman Gamble and Francis Newman Moore, two dear lifelong friends.  Upon her husband Bob's early death in 1981, she stepped up and became a full-time farmer raising tobacco, corn, and other crops.  Joan was born to Clotilde and Howard LeFevre Sr. and was raised in the Luraville community of south Suwannee County with two dear brothers, Howard LeFevre Jr. and Tom LeFevre. Many tall tales and fun times were spent fishing, hunting, and swimming in the river and local springs. Some of her favorite activities were fishing and watching Gator football.

Joan eventually moved back to Luraville, living in the old house of her parents behind the Luraville store and then more recently Bell, Florida.  Joan is survived by her children, Karen Newman, Donna Wilson (Steve), Terri Newman (Randy Wiggins), and Butch Newman (Pepper).  Her grandchildren, Carlee Beauchamp (Trey), Corey Wilson, Caitlyn Bedenbaugh (Justin), Dustin Newman (Taylor), Chance Newman and Ryder Newman. Great grandchildren, Gracie and Easton Beauchamp, Payton Bedenbaugh, and Elizabeth and Noah Newman.

Joan was predeceased by her parents, Clotilde and Howard D. LeFevre Sr., husband Bob Newman, daughter Pamela Newman, brothers Howard LeFevre Jr. and Tom C. LeFevre, grandson Robbie Newman, and great-grandson John Bedenbaugh.

Joan also cherished many nieces and nephews of her brothers and bonus sisters (Zoe and Francis) including Susan Self, Laura MacLafferty, Meriem Allgood, Lisa Free, Lynn Lyn, Leigh Ann Kingston, Cory LeFevre, Reed and Ryan Moore, Paula Land, Sandy Laxton, Shanna Hatfield and their precious spouses and children.

Joan will be laid to rest with graveside services in the Luraville Baptist Church Cemetery beside her husband Bob at 10:30 am on Tuesday, August 13th, 2024. A visitation will be held Monday afternoon from 4:30 to 6:30 pm at the funeral home.
