John Morgan Crapps, 78, passed away on Thursday, May 21, 2026 at the HCA Florida Suwannee Emergency in Live Oak, FL after a brief illness. John was born on November 17, 1947 in Hines, Dixie County, Florida to P.C. Crapps, Jr. and Virginia Birchfield Crapps.

John is survived by his brother, Daniel Crapps and his sisters, Betsy Burch, Jenny Johnson (Bill), and Dicy Hannum. Other survivors include many nieces and nephews and their families, as well as his special friend, Judy Taylor. John was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers: Claude, III, David, Peat, James, and George Crapps.

The Crapps family moved from Hines to Live Oak in 1950 when John was three years old. He attended Suwannee County schools until his junior year when he transferred to Staunton Military Academy in Staunton, VA.  After graduating from SMA in June of 1965, he enrolled at The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa where he enjoyed a vibrant campus life, all major sports programs (especially Coach Bear Bryant football), and some of his academics. Everyone knew not to call or visit John when he was watching Alabama football games! In 1970, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Commerce and Business Administration, and for the rest of this life, he was a loyal and supportive alumni.

Following his college graduation, John served his country by joining the United States Navy until his honorable discharge in December 1975, after which he returned home and began a long career in banking at the Hamilton County Bank in Jasper, FL. Subsequently, he opened three successful locations of his Reddy Freddy (named after his dog) convenience stores in Suwannee County.

One of John's passions was his involvement in art, especially painting and photography.  He referred to his paintings as "Wildastic" because they represented the bold, colorful, and creative side of his personality. Some consider him to be an important American painter, and his works have been shown in several locations, including the Ambassador Gallery in New York City, as well as some shows in Palm Beach, FL.

No one enjoyed life as much as our John.  He was a free spirit who lived life on his own terms.  He enjoyed the simple things: his dogs and birds, a favorite drink, a Cuban cigar, a good book, and his favorite hat!  We all knew that underneath his crusty exterior was a kind, funny, gentle, generous and compassionate man who loved his family, and they loved him.
