John Howard Gamble, age 78, was a lifelong resident of Suwannee County. He was born May 12, 1948, to John and Azalee Gamble, who preceded him in death. John entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior on June 12, 2026, following an extended illness. He was a man of deep faith and loved life. Anyone who knew John - knew his great sense of humor, his legacy of hard work, how he helped anyone in need, had unwavering faith, and was devoted to his family. John served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from 1967-1970 as a combat engineer. After his tour of duty, he returned home to Live Oak. He married Brenda Clark on May 30, 1970. He worked with Owens Illinois Timber Company followed by his employment with PCA for 25 years. During this time, he made many friends that have kept in touch through the years. After retirement, John went to work for Gold Kist Poultry where he drove a semi-truck for 15 years. By 2010, John was totally retired and his time was filled with fishing, deer and turkey hunting, and spending time with family and friends. He loved camping and never met a stranger. John was so happy spending time with his daughters Julie and Lisa, and loved to play jokes on them and make them laugh! He enjoyed taking his grandchildren on camping trips, teaching them to fish in the Suwannee River, and took them to the beach. He loved to go fishing and hunting very early in the morning as the world awoke. John always said that was his and God's time together. John became a member of Westwood Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and was a member of the Board of Trustees. John later attended Westside Baptist Church. For the past two years, John helped construct the entire set for the Easter play, "The Week that Changed the World".

He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Brenda Clark Gamble of Live Oak, two daughters – Julie (Lee) Cherry of Madison, and Lisa (Brian) Tillman of Lake City; three cherished grandchildren – Taylor (RJ) Dutch, Ty Tillman, and Larrie Cherry. John will be missed by his many nieces, nephews, cousins, his adoptive brothers Keith and Jim Daniels, and dear life-long friends. His legacy will live on in all who were blessed to know him.
A celebration of John's life will be held at Daniels Funeral Home of Live Oak. Visitation from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, June 15, 2026. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 16, 2026.
