Lavaughn Eugene Newbern, age 86, passed away peacefully on November 25, 2024 after an extended illness. He was born July 19, 1938, on a farm in rural Suwannee County near Luraville, Florida and was a resident of the county all his life.

He entered the National Guard upon graduation from Suwannee High School. He went on to be parts manager at Brown GMC-Pontiac dealership in Live Oak for a number of years until helping manage the family cattle operation. During this time, he was employed by the U. S. Postal Service where he was a rural letter carrier for 30 years. He retired back to the farm where he grew timber and enjoyed his retirement playing golf, but never to shy away from hard work on the farm.

He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, extensive travel with his wife, his grandchildren, and not so much the game of golf as the fellowship with his close friends. His warm, amiable, and engaging personality left an indelible mark on family, friends, and even complete strangers throughout his life.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Ednell Brown Newbern, his two sons, Lavaughn Jr. "Len" and James Bradley, and three grandchildren that he cherished, Jack, Hamp, and Rae Newbern. He is also survived by his brother, Jerry (Martha) Newbern, and his sister, Linda (Buddy) Smith.

Visitation will be Monday, December 2nd at Daniels in Live Oak from 6-8 pm. A service will be held on Tuesday, December 3rd also at Daniels at 11 am.

He leaves behind a legacy of a long life well lived. He will be missed immeasurably by his loving family and friends, but his spirit and memory will inspire and live on in the hearts of loved ones.
