V ida "Lavon" Monds
November 11, 1936 - July 28, 2022

Vida Lavon Monds, 85, passed away Thursday, July 28, 2022, in her home in Live Oak, FL. Lavon, as all her friends and loved ones knew her, never used her first name, Vida. She was born on November 11, 1936, in Atoka, Oklahoma, to Austin Carl and Bertha Munholland Jones. Lavon spent most of her childhood in Oklahoma, Washington, Arizona, and Texas during the great oil boom. She married Donald Benjamin Monroe in 1950, and together they had three sons: Donald, Daniel, and Douglas Monroe. Lavon and family moved to McAlpin, FL, in 1965. Later, Lavon married Marvin Elwood Monds in 1975. Marvin and Lavon were a happy couple, who cherished one another and loved spending time with their family and friends as well as serving the Lord together at their church home, Antioch Baptist Church, in Live Oak, FL.

Lavon was a beautician for over 40 years, working at Tannenbaums, Fleets, and Silver Shears. She also volunteered at the Surrey Place in Live Oak, FL. Lavon was such a classy, fashionable woman who enjoyed visiting with her loyal clients and always had a classy flare for the finer things in life. Anyone who knew Lavon knew that she took great pride in her beautiful clothes, make-up, hair, nails, and accessories. Many would describe Lavon as a regal servant who always had a warm smile on her face and a kind word to share.

Lavon was preceded in death by her loving husband Marvin E. Monds, both her parents, her brother John Jones of Snyder, TX, and her stepson, Jeffrey B. Monds of Jasper, FL. Lavon is survived by four sons, Donald K. Monroe, Danny M. Monroe (Karen), and Douglas B. Monroe, all of Live Oak, and Robert A. Monds (Theresa) of Lake City; one daughter in law Helen Monds of Jasper; and two sisters, Freda Rayvon of Snyder, TX, and Doretha Isbell of Fairfield, TX. She was blessed to have 13 grandchildren: Emily Monroe Bailey (Scott) of Lake City, FL, Sarah D. Monroe and Raina Monroe Shey (Brian), both of Gainesville, Shelly Monroe Watson (Matt) of Crestview, FL, Benjamin Caleb Monroe, Cara Monroe Bass (Rodney), Brian D. Monroe, and Constance D. Monroe, all of Live Oak, FL, Cassidy V. Monroe of South Hadley, MA, Katelyn M. Monroe of Gainesville, FL, Jeffrey and Kaelin Monds, both of Jasper, FL, and Brandyn A. Monds of Medford, OR. Lavon also has 12 great-grandchildren, Bethany, Lauren, Josh, Cada, Chase, Spencer, Sterling, Zachery, Brandyn, Bryson, Fisher, and Penelope, with two on the way; one great-great-grandchild Hunter; two daughters-in-law Sandra Brim Burnsed (Cal) of Lake City, FL, and Kathy Lamb Hals of Live Oak, FL; as well as a plethora of nieces, nephews, and friends whom she loved very much.

Lavon's home-going service will be Tuesday, August 2, 2022 - viewing at 10 AM, Funeral at 11 AM, and graveside service immediately following, all at Antioch Baptist Church, Live Oak, FL, with Bro. David McKeithen officiating.
