Lavon Singletary, a lifelong resident of Mayo, Florida, passed away on November 5, 2026, at the age of 77. Born on August 7, 1949, Lavon was a hardworking, genuine, and kind man whose quiet nature was matched by a deep love for his family and those around him.
Lavon built a life marked by dedication, hard work, and perseverance. He began his career at Mott Buick before moving to Goldkist in 1974, where he worked until 1985. After a brief time in construction, he started his own trucking company, Singletary Trucking & Hauling, in 1985. What began as his own business continues today as a proud family operation. In addition to his work, Lavon faithfully served in the National Guard for 12 years.
He found happiness in life's simple pleasures and the things he enjoyed most. He loved boating and camping, and especially enjoyed running heavy equipment, which he affectionately considered his toys. He had a love for music, played the guitar, and danced with his sweetheart anytime he was given the opportunity. Though he was a quiet man by nature, those who knew him understood the depth of his love and the kindness of his heart. His wife often said he had the patience of Job, a fitting reflection of the steady and gentle spirit he carried throughout his life. Lavon's faith was an important part of who he was. He was a longtime member of Bethel Creek Baptist Church, where he sought to live out the words of 2 Timothy 2:15. Later in life, he attended Airline Baptist Church, cherishing the opportunity to worship alongside his family.
Second to his salvation, Lavon treasured his family. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 56 years, Elizabeth "Libby" Ezell Singletary; his son, Jason Lavon and wife, Debbie, and their daughters, Ali and husband, Jordan, and Marley Rosa; and his daughter, Julie Koon and husband, Sidney, and their children, Emily Drew and husband, Cory, Jackson and wife, Ashton, Madilene, and Clay Lavon. He was blessed with five great-grandchildren: Jaclyn, Camden, Kelby, Carson, and Katherine. He is also survived by his brother, Jeffery Singletary, along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. His love for his family and the memories they shared will remain a lasting part of the generations he leaves behind.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jammie Samuel and Rosa Vera Carroll Singletary; and his sisters, Betty Hayes and Lucille Varnes.
Visitation will be held on November 10, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Airline Baptist Church, 200 NE County Road 354, Mayo, Florida 32066. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. at Airline Baptist Church. Interment will take place at Bethel Creek Cemetery immediately following the funeral service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Bethel Creek Baptist Church Building Fund, 8945 County Road 53, Mayo, FL 32066.
