Lowry Dykes went home to be with the Lord on March 3, 2025 at the age of 88. Lowry was born in Fort Worth, Texas on July 2, 1936 to the late Reverend E. Raymond and Lucille Hudson Dykes.  After high school, he enlisted in the Air Force and was stationed in Honolulu, Hawaii. He subsequently transferred to Albuquerque, New Mexico as a recruiter. From there, he was assigned to the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. Following military retirement, he worked for Delta Airlines in Atlanta for several years, then he moved to Pelzer, South Carolina where he operated a heavy equipment construction company. After moving to Florida, he became a correctional officer at Hamilton Correctional Institution and retired. He eventually retired for a second time from the Sheriff's Office in 2011 after working at the Suwannee County Jail. Lowry was a devoted mason for more than 50 years and a member of Barrett Lodge No. 43.

Lowry was known for his strong work-ethic and dedication to his family. He loved family gatherings with fellowship and good food. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church and was an avid Florida Gator fan. He enjoyed gardening and spent countless hours working in his yard.

He was the beloved father of his children, Deborah Paquette, Donna Curry, Troy Dykes (Christina), Tyler Dykes (Keri), and Hudson Dykes. He is survived by his brother Joseph Dykes (Debbie); sisters, Mary Jane Weaver (Dewey) and Martha Newbern (Jerry), as well as 12 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Diane Wright Dykes.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 12, 2025 at 11:00 am at Daniels Funeral Home in Live Oak, Florida. Interment will follow at Antioch Baptist Church cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to Melissa Beam and Liz Brooks, as well as the wonderful staff of the Good Samaritan Center at the Advent Christian Village, for their compassionate care during his final days. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made on Lowry's behalf to the Advent Christian Village or the Florida Sheriff's Youth Ranch.
