Margie McDonald McLeod, 77, passed away Sunday, February 23, 2025, following an illness of several months.

Margie is survived by her husband of 58 years, John, daughters, Rowna (David) Valin,  Heather (Rob) Bayers, sons, Damon (Leah) and Kyle (Jennifer) and daughter-in-law Myca McLeod; grandchildren Luke Herron, Riley Bayers, Skye & Cade Valin, Owen & Jaden McLeod,  Brittany, Hannah, Alex, Ava, & Emmalyn McLeod, Kaelen McLeod, Gavin McLeod and great-granddaughter Caroline; sisters Mavis Johns, Nancy McMullen, Ramona (Terry) Land, and Georgette (Joe) Ragan, brothers Murel (Debra)& Jimmy McDonald, and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a son, Ryan, and a sister, Claudie Bailey.

Margie was a home birth on April 28, 1947, in Jasper, Florida. She was the 2nd of 8 children born to the late Claude and Edith McDonald.

Margie grew up in Live Oak, graduated from Suwannee High School and attended the University of Florida, where she earned a Master's Degree in Education. She was a 1st grade classroom teacher at Branford Elementary School until her retirement in 2007. She loved working with her young students and was especially proud of having earned the National Board Certification.

Being the matriarch of a large family, she looked forward to the holidays and celebratory gatherings with loved ones throughout the year. She had a green thumb and was an avid gardener, working in the yard with her camellias and other ornamental plants and flowers.

Margie was a life-long member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and had a strong and abiding faith and deep love for her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

She was a kind and gentle soul, and an irreplaceable part of our family. She will be missed more than any words can express and she will forever be in our hearts until we meet again.

A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, February 27th at 11:00 am at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Live Oak with Father Bob Hoffman officiating. Interment will take place at Mt. Olive Baptist Church.
