Mary Edna Rex, 98, of Live Oak, FL passed away on April 22, 2026 surrounded by family and most of all her grandchildren at home. She was born on November 20, 1927 in Ft. Lauderdale, FL to the late Reu Wilbur & Lucy Emma Kemper Rex and moved to to Suwannee County in 1933.

She attended Jones Business College in Jacksonville and Bob Jones University (formerly Bob Jones College). Her professional career included time at Suwannee Valley Electric (1945–1947), the Union Rescue Mission in Savannah, GA (1951–1953), and the Anchorage Rehab Facility in Albany, GA (1953–1962). She later worked at the old Suwannee County Hospital before moving to Lakeshore Hospital in Lake City, where she eventually retired after 29 years as a bookkeeper.

In 1985, Mary Edna became a foster parent, serving for 16 years alongside her late sister, Lucy Rex. Together, they adopted Jesse and Amanda in June of 1990. A dedicated member of the Live Oak Church of the Nazarene for over 70 years, Mrs. Rex also served her congregation by playing the piano and organ for Sunday and Wednesday services for over 60 years.

Mary Edna has joined her parents, Rue & Lucy Rex; siblings: Wilbur Rex, Glenn Rex, Ralph Rex, William Rex, Ernestine Land and Lucy Rex that have preceded her in death and is now in her heavenly home to walk alongside our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She is survived by her children: Jesse Rex, Amanda Rex Burkeybile (Kurtis), grandchildren: Nicole Rex, Cayden Ramos, Lillyana Burkeybile, William Burkeybile, and Reagan Burkeybile.

Mary Edna had a wonderful 98 years of life and has served her community of Suwannee County with dignity, honor, and integrity. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
