Mildred Noretta Cooper Waitt, a resident of the Advent Christian Village of Dowling Park, FL passed into the loving arms of Jesus on December 3, 2022. She was born in Tampa, FL on March 22, 1936, to Roy and Bernice Cooper and was married to the Rev. Harold Waitt for 43 years. Mildred spent her younger years in Tampa, graduating from Hillsborough High School in 1954, but the majority of her adult life was in the Valdosta and Lake Park, GA area, serving in the music ministry of several local churches. She attended organ, voice and choral conducting classes at the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and she was on staff to several churches in Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, Alabama, and Louisiana, often playing the piano, directing choirs, teaching Sunday School, and singing duets. A director of graded choir programs, she presented several outstanding musicals and was awarded superior ratings at choral festivals throughout Georgia and Florida. She was also the pianist for a men's gospel quartet in Tampa and had several touring youth choirs. She taught piano, and kindergarten and was an elementary admin assistant. Later, she completed one year at Valdosta State University where she became interested in Creative Writing and was awarded a scholarship in the discipline. She has written many articles and interviewed several local people. She has also written several children's books for her grandchildren. Her last literary challenge was a romance novel. She also became the co-owner and manager of "Waitt's Piano Tuning and Repair" for over 13 years. Mildred is survived by two daughters and sons-in-laws, Kristie and Tommy Neel, and Melonie and Johnny Harrell, all of Lake Park. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Thomas Alexander and Kristen Alexis Neel and Robert Stroud Williams III and Tyler Waitt Williams, and two great-grandchildren, Grayson Williams, and Brooklyn Williams. Mildred is preceded in death by her husband, Rev Harold Waitt, her parents, Roy and Bernice Cooper as well as a grandchild, Zachary Gene Williams and Jean Marie Morgan, mother of Grayson and Brooklyn. When moving to the village, Mildred became active in many activities including, water volleyball, aerobic swimming, line dancing, computer classes, camera club, fishing, and boating as well as becoming a tour guide for the village. She especially found a talent for painting and painted several beautiful scenes, many of which were placed on display in the lobby of the village and reside among the homes of friends and family. Mildred will be remembered as a very happy and energetic person with a good sense of humor and a zest for life. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and her strong "can-do" faith and positive attitude together with her laughter will long be remembered as she departs from this earth to her final destination in heaven with the Lord Jesus. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, December 7, 2022,  at the Riverview Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Valdosta, GA with Mr. Tommy Neel officiating. There will be a visitation Tuesday afternoon from 4 to 5:00 pm at the funeral home.
