Peter Gaylord Shurter went to be with the Lord peacefully after a short stay in hospice on August 29th at the age of 89. Peter was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He and his wife, Driskill, celebrated their 40th anniversary in March of this year. He was a member of The Village Church in Dowling Park, FL. He and Driskill also served twelve years in the FL Guardian ad Litem program.

Peter was born on May 4, 1934 in Cleveland, OH. He graduated from Shaker Heights High School and furthered his education at Cornell University with a degree in Dairy Science, which was his lifelong passion. After serving two years in the Army, he married Elaine Agesen and began his dairy career in Piffard, NY. After 25 years, Peter, Elaine and their four boys all moved south to Florida where he managed Sunnyhill Farm in Weirsdale. Sadly, Elaine lost a short battle with cancer soon after they moved to Ocala. In March of '83, Peter, accompanied by his 4 boys, married Driskill Hill, accompanied by her 3 girls.

In 1989, Peter pursued his passion for the dairy life and established Suwannee River Dairy in Live Oak, FL. In 2005, he officially retired and sold the dairy. He and Driskill spent the next 7 years traveling the world. Peter also had a love for reading, fishing, and tennis. He and Driskill even traveled to see many professional tennis tournaments through the years.

Preceded in death by his parents Dr. Robert L. Shurter and Mae Shurter. Peter leaves behind his wife of 40 years, Driskill, his sister Marilyn (James) Cotesworth, his children Steve (Karin) Shurter, Scott (Laura) Shurter, Christian (Vickie) Shurter, Philip Shurter, Terri (Frank) Varnadoe, Carla (Jimmy) Jimmerson, and Amy (Robert) Waggoner; 17 grandchildren, and 15 great-gandchildren, and his beloved frenchie, Toobow.
