Dr. Richard Daniel Cason, age 89, of Live Oak, Florida, passed away on June 26, 2024.

Richard was born and raised in Pompano Beach, Florida, where he attended Pompano Beach High School. After graduating from Lincoln Chiropractic College, he served as a weapons tester in the United States Army. While stationed at Fort Jackson in Columbia, South Carolina, Richard met his wife Gladys. They were married in 1959 and eventually returned to South Florida where their daughter Carrie was born and Richard opened his first chiropractic practice. In 1973, Richard and his family moved to Live Oak signaling a return "home" for him as multiple generations of his family were originally from Suwannee and surrounding counties.

Richard was an avid outdoorsman who spent many days duck hunting, spearfishing, farming, and horseback riding. He was a skilled carpenter and licensed pilot. Richard enjoyed tracing his family history and was proud to hold a Florida Pioneer Descendant certification, proving his direct lineage to ancestors who settled in Florida before statehood.

Richard was a Chiropractic Physician for over 50 years who owned and operated Live Oak Chiropractic for most of his career until his retirement in 2013. He cared deeply for the wellbeing of his patients and staff and was beloved for his good humor and kindhearted nature. He was active in the community as a member of the Kiwanis and Rotary Clubs, Gideons International, and other faith and service-based organizations. Richard was a faithful member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher and in many other lay-leader positions.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Kirby Sandlin Cason and Lydia Law Cason. He is survived by his wife of 64 years Gladys Cason, daughter Carrie Prange (Bill), granddaughters Hollis Glass (Ben) and Annabelle Scott (Aaron), and brother Dennis (Marcia) all of Live Oak as
well as several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, June 29th at Mt. Olive Baptist Church with Rev. Wally Weaver and Rev. Lewis Gooch officiating. There will be a visitation held prior to the service at the church beginning at 1:00 pm. Interment will be held in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests you make a donation to Community Hospice and Palliative Care in Columbia County.
