Richard Lynn Schicker passed away on September 12, after a short illness.

He was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Mildred Schicker, his brother Robert "Bob" Schicker, and infant son Robert James. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Susan, Daughter Mardy, Son Rob and grandchildren, Caden, Charlie, and Frankie, Sisters Sandra (Manuel) Hernandez, Kathy (Mark) Harden, Carol Alger, and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Richard was born on September 14, 1947, in Grayling, Michigan. He spent his childhood in Phoenix, Arizona.  His love for nature began at a young age, when he shared many adventures chasing after wildlife and exploring the Arizona desert and mountains with his older brother, Bob and their friends.  At 18, Rich joined the U.S. Marine Corps and is proud of the time he spent serving our country before being medically discharged.

On June 21, 1969, Richard married his beloved wife, Susan.  They settled in Howell, Michigan where they raised their two children (and many pets).  He took pride in providing for his family and while a hard worker, he lived by the "work to live, not live to work" frame of mind.  With their nest now empty, Rich and Sue headed south to Live Oak, Florida in 2006.  This enabled them to support and spend time with his Mother-in-Law, Helen Bixler and other extended family members. Richard took great pride in creating a haven for friends, family, and wildlife to enjoy. He spent many hours on his back porch, where he could admire his yard, a true labor of love.  When alone, this provided time for reflection and contemplation; but what he loved most was sitting there with friends and family enjoying a good shrimp boil and playing games.

Rich was an avid outdoorsman and animal lover.  One of his favorite places to fish was the beautiful Nature Coast, either at Steinhatchee or Cedar Key.  In honor of this passion, the family asks for donations to the Florida Nature Coast Conservancy at www.floridasnaturecoastconservancy.org
