Ruby Jean Adams, 68, passed away on Thursday, April 28, 2022. She fought a two-year battle with lung disease. Ruby's childhood was spent in Lake, West Virginia. One of eight children, she was a Coal Miner's daughter. Ruby's life can best be summed up as all about kids.  She met and married John R. Adams in 1992 and began working for Monroe County Schools in food service for fourteen years. A kid in that school system had "Miss Ruby" serve him lunch from pre-k to his senior year. Together with her husband, she began fostering children, over the next seven years they fostered seventeen children for different periods of time.  Three of these children were adopted, and together with her biological daughter, they combined to make a family of six. In 2006 they relocated to Live Oak and became faithful members of Clayland Baptist Church. She worked in the children's ministry for more than a decade. John and Ruby's home was known for overnights for boys, she always preferred to keep her boys close. Many kids over the years thought of "Miss Ruby" as their other mom.

Mrs. Adams is survived by her husband: John Adams; sons: Richard Adams, Jonathan Adams; daughters:  Amanda Hammann, Nerissa Lazo; eight grandchildren:  Jason, Hannah, Amelia, Luis, Gianna, Jovanni, Aaron, Caleb; siblings: Billy Ray Hayes, Linda Ball, Carol Hurley, Donna Ross, Jackie Howell, Mary Ann Burkhalter, Karla Adams, Bruce Adams, Sharon Adams, Karen Klark, Tammy Ferguson, Timothy Adams, Angela Adams, Patrick Adams; and forty-three nieces and nephews.  She is preceded in death by her parents: Willis Hayes & Mary Blankenship; father and mother-in-law: Clarence "Doc" & Elizabeth Adams; siblings: Lonnie Hayes, Debbie Benson, Dwana Woody, Paul Joseph Adams, Lee Adams, and Brenda Bradley.

A celebration of life luncheon gathering will be held at 12:30 pm Sunday, May 15th at Clayland Baptist Church Rec Hall with lunch provided.  The family requests that no flowers be sent, just that you attend her celebration of life if you are able but if you feel led to, please make a donation in her honor to Foster Care/Adoption.
