Ruby Nell Cross Lanier Landen, affectionately known as 'Mama', passed away on May 21, 2026, at the age of 91. Born on March 2, 1935, she was the beloved daughter of Homer Clyde Cross and Flossie Mae Cross. Ruby was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, cherished by her large family.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Harold Lanier and Hugh Landen, and her grandson, Lil' Ricky Lanier. Ruby is survived by her children: Hal Lanier & Melinda, Lex Lanier, Ricky Lanier, Cheri Lanier Gardner & Kent, Jimmy Landen, and Hugh Landen. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Brian Lanier & Linda, Rocky Solomon & Candace, Eric Lanier & Tiffany, Phillip Lanier, Kellie Lanier, Ryan Lanier, Jared Gardner & Kayla, Rollin Gardner & Ashley, Jordan Boston & Carlos, Robby Creech & Kelly, Travis Creech, Blake Landen & Olivia, Chad Landen, Tyler Landen & Annabelle, Logan Landen, Gunner Landen, and Chris Lanier, as well as 28 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.

Ruby Nell Lanier "Mama" had many amazing talents! She was a wonderful mother! She was a first-class gardener, an unbelievable cook, and a gifted seamstress. She had the gift of hospitality, too! Above all, she loved the Lord Jesus and tried to follow His example. She was self-less, kind, patient, and forgiving. When others would give up on you, Mama did not. She was supportive and encouraging. She was a virtuous woman!

She was married to Daddy (Harold Lanier) for 30 years. Being widowed at a young age was difficult, but she was blessed to find love twice. She was married to Hugh Landen for 30 years. She helped run Landen's Grocery until she retired. Mama was part of a big extended family because her mother was a Carmichael. She enjoyed her giant extended family. Cousins were treated like siblings, and there was always a family reunion or event for Mama to help prepare for and enjoy.
She was everyone's favorite aunt. She shared plants, recipes, and sewing lessons. Mama gave thoughtful homemade gifts and was dearly loved by all her family!

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Haven Hospice in Lake City for their outstanding care and genuine love during Ruby's final days.

Services will be held at Daniels Funeral Home, 1126 Ohio Ave N, Live Oak, FL 32064, on Thursday, May 28. A viewing will take place from 9:00 to 10:00 am, followed by a funeral service at 10:00 am. Ruby will be laid to rest at Live Oak Cemetery.
