It is with great sadness that his family announces the death of Steven Eric Summers of Live Oak, Florida, who passed away on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, following a lengthy illness. Steve was born June 30, 1958. Adopted as an infant, Steve was loved unconditionally by the only parents he ever knew, Billy and Gwen Summers, who provided him with the love and support to become the wonderful man that he was.

Upon graduation from Suwannee High School in 1976, he attended Santa Fe Community College and later earned his Registered Respiratory Therapist certification. He was passionate about his career as a respiratory therapist that spanned more than 30 years at Lake Shore Regional Medical Center.

Steve was preceded in death by his father, Billy, a sister, Kimberly, and a child, John Michael. He is survived by his mother, Gwen, four children, and twelve grandchildren. His legacy includes son, Steven Summers II, his wife Wendy, and their children, Eric, Bendy, and Wriley; daughter, Jamie Moffit, her husband Jimmy, and their children Dean and Carli; daughter, Allison Warner, her husband Luke, and their children Kayli and her wife, Taylor, Trenna Burkett, Trent Burkett, Addilyn Warner, and Summer Warner; and son Tyler Summers, his partner Kristen, and their children Liam and Emmie.

A devoted family man, Steve made every effort to attend the activities and events in which his children and grandchildren participated. Always supportive, he was a constant presence at softball and baseball games, NJROTC events, concerts, dance recitals, livestock shows, theatre productions, and school functions.

One of his great joys late in life was finding and establishing relationships with his four biological sisters, Wanda Warrick, Pam Cochran, Dawn Greene, and Holly McRoy, all from North Carolina and who survive him. Although they only reconnected recently, the time they spent together was affirming and filled with laughter.

He fought the good fight and left knowing how loved he was by his family and friends.

A visitation was held on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at 9:30 am and followed by a celebration of life at 10:00 in the Daniels Funeral Home Chapel. The service was officiated by Jason Rountree and Buddy Malloy. Interment followed in Live Oak Cemetery.

We owe debts of gratitude to Dr. Ernest DeLeon, Steve's primary care physician for many decades; Dr. Uma Iyer and her staff at Florida Cancer Specialists, who became like family and did their best to prolong Steve's life; and to the medical staff at the University of Florida Shands Hospital, particularly the ICU staff, who went the extra mile day and night to simplify his last days and make him comfortable.
