Obituary

Wanda DeRamus Barnett, 100, passed November 29, 2021, in West Palm Beach, FL.  Wanda was born on December 3, 1920, in Birmingham, AL, to Claude and Daisey DeRamus.

Wanda was a proud Tiger and alumna of Auburn University where she graduated with a bachelor's in education. Following her time in college, she returned to Birmingham where she became the first female lifeguard for the City of Birmingham.  She was also a swim instructor for Navy recruits that were preparing for WWII deployment.  It was during this time that she met her future husband, Harry Barnett, then married in 1947.  Wanda and Harry relocated to Plantation, FL in 1963 with their 2 children, Wanda Lynn and Gene.

Along with being a loving and industrious wife and mother, she worked as an Administrator for the City of Plantation Parks & Recreation Department.  Upon her retirement, she was presented with the honorable Keys to the City by the Mayor of Plantation.  Harry and Wanda then moved to their paradise and forever home in Loxahatchee, FL. Wanda became a devoted caregiver to her niece Jeannette, who she dearly loved and cherished. They were 2 peas in a pod.

Wanda is known for her warmth of heart.  She was courageous, smart, funny, and a force of good through her selflessness and generosity to all.  She loved her family and enjoyed learning something new every day.

She is survived by her daughter Wanda Lynn Barnett and son Gene Barnett & wife Carol Barnett, 4 grandchildren Graham Petticord, Jeanne Bibby & husband Larry Bibby, Austin Barnett and Matt Barnett (deceased) and 5 great-grandchildren Nathan Will, Haylee Petticord, Reese Bibby, Riley Bibby, and Liam Barnett.

Wanda was proceeded by her husband, Harry E Barnett.
